HUNDREDS OF WEBSITES OPTIMIZED
TEN YEARS OF ELITE SEARCH MARKETING EXPERIENCE
It’s simple, really. Your business in Seattle needs an easy-to-use, easy-to-find website that builds your credibility and convincingly sells your services to potential clients. Why do most online marketing companies make it so complicated—locking you into expensive, ongoing SEO contracts that don’t even get first-page organic rank in Google search results?
I keep it simple. I’m a search marketing professional specializing in SEO for small and medium business in the Seattle area. I have seen just how broken, ineffective, and frankly rigged the traditional model of subscription-based SEO is. I want to change all that.
WHO IS MIKE SCHATZ ANYWAY?
I’m a serial entrepreneur and an expert in all things search marketing. Over the past decade I have been directly involved with the launch, development, and sale of a variety of companies whose success can be largely attributed to effective SEO.
I happened upon the convoluted world of search engine marketing and SEO by way of circumstance—and decided to make a career out of helping Seattle businesses free themselves from costly and ineffective SEO contracts.
I live every day with an attitude of gratitude; I am a proud father and devoted husband and I’m blessed to do what I love: Apply SEO wizardry to get my clients rank with Google, Bing, Yahoo!, and other search engines. That’s not just an empty promise. I have a portfolio of successful projects and optimization metrics the likes of which is possessed by only a handful of search marketing professionals in the industry today.
The overwhelming majority of online marketing companies—like Reach Local, FindLaw, Sesame Communications, Yodle, and their countless clones—charge a monthly subscription for services that, in my opinion, offer little or no long-term value for their clients. Most of the websites produced by these companies are nothing more than templates filled with boilerplate marketing jargon. Sites like that don’t work, and I’ll tell you why…
Sites like that miss the mark in numerous ways. They have little, if any, organic rank. They don’t rank locally or socially. And they’re not optimized to convert AdWords or other PPC traffic into calls or clients. To make matters worse, these sites are used to hold you hostage. You’re told that if you stop your subscription, your rank will simply vanish. Rubbish, baloney, hogwash!
At the going rate of $400 to $1,000 per month with an average contract duration of two years, you could end up spending $10,000 to $24,000—only to end up with an ineffective, poorly ranked, boilerplate website. I think this is criminal and I’m here to change the status quo.
Stuck in a Contract? I’ll look at your current site and find ways to make it perform the way it should have from the start. I’ll enhance the on-page and off-page SEO to make you rank for your desired keywords and phrases. And I’ll create rock-solid content that resonates with prospective clients, that converts traffic into phone calls, and turns visitors into customers.
No Contract and Ready for Change? Perfect, I’ll build a fresh, new site that sets your small business apart from your competition with great content, stunning design, and clear calls to action. And, yes, your site will rank!
Are You Promoting SEM? Need an AdWords Campaign? I’ll set up and teach you to manage AdWords and PPC campaigns that rock. Because I’ve been doing this since AdWords first came onto the scene, my skills have evolved with the platform; I’m an AdWords expert and have personally set up and managed over $3 million dollars worth of AdWords campaigns. I know how to supercharge your AdWords campaign to maximize conversions and ROI, give you a clear picture of client acquisition cost, and set you up for advertising success.
Want Social and Local Search Optimization? Placement with Local Search Optimization means that your business appears on a map of Seattle in Google, Bing, and Yahoo! organic search results. Social placement via Social Media Optimization means that your Facebook, Twiter, LinkedIn, and Google+ pages rank in organic search results. Both are paramount to the success of any small business’ marketing campaign. I am a specialist at optimizing business websites and social media pages to rank locally and socially. If you’re not ranking in these two verticals, you’re definitely missing out on new business.Call Now for Your FREE Consultation
When Environix, one of the largest environmental services firms in Washington’s Puget Sound area, first opened its doors in 2002, it was spending about $5,000 per month on Yellow Pages advertising. At those prices, attracting new customers was expensive and Environix was looking for a way to cut advertising costs without sacrificing results. Through strategic SEO and SEM, I helped Environix achieve far better results at a much lower cost per conversion.

As a new company, Environix was entering a somewhat crowded space; in order to take as much market share from competitors as possible, I decided to take advantage of its competitors’ lack of knowledge in search marketing. The goals for Environix’s website were threefold: (1) rank well organically to offset advertising spend, (2) convey the value of Environix’s services to its potential customers, (3) instill confidence in prospective customers by positioning the team at Environix as experts.
Environix operates in a very competitive and crowded space where top keywords can cost as much as $30 per click. Despite the competition, Environix stands out from the competition with a highly visible presence in organic, PPC, and local searches; the company often shows up three to five times on the first page of search results between local, paid, and multiple organic results.
RantRave.com is a 50,000-page news and opinion website authored entirely by its members. At its inception, RantRave needed a smart, robust website that could grow over time as its members posted more and more content. I designed, built, and launched RantRave’s online presence, providing a platform for the site’s 5,000+ members, many of whom are now able to monetize their posts by displaying Google ads on the pages they’ve created.

For RantRave, I needed to build a web-based application and social networking platform that would automate the writing process while taking SEO into account. Site authors—even ones with little or no knowledge of SEO—needed to get direction on how to include critical components and meta data in order to yield the best possible organic rank in search results for themselves. Also, in order to submit articles and posts for inclusion in Google News,
I needed to develop an editorial review process and create the information architecture necessary to maintain compliance with Google News publisher guidelines.
Today, RantRave’s 5,000+ members have well-established profiles; the SEO-savvy automated article submission application has helped thousands of articles, news pieces, and comments achieve first-page organic rank in Google search results. In addition, the site was one of only a few thousand in the world to have been granted the status of “Official Google News Source.”
MyHuckleberry.com is a 25 million page business directory and consumer review site. The concept, free for users and monetized by Google AdSense, was launched in 2006 as a resource for businesses and consumers alike. My SEO campaign led to the successful indexing of more than 20 million of the directory’s web pages by Google with over four million pages achieving first-page rank.

MyHuckleberry.com tasked me with taking a database of 25 million businesses and building a directory using an information architecture that was both usable/intuitive for humans and logical/compliant for search engine spiders.
The MyHuckleberry.com project was wildly successful. At its peak, the website received more than 100,000 unique page visits per day, had over four million pages with first-page rank in Google, and sustained a four-year running average CTR of 12%, a metric virtually unheard of in ad publishing. MyHuckleberry.com went on to become one of the largest AdSense publishers on the west coast and was invited, by Google, to join the auspicious AdSense for Search Ads Only program, a program reserved exclusively for publishers with $50,000+ per month in ad revenue.
FranchisePrep, sometimes described as the LegalZoom.com for franchises, is the #1 selling brand of franchise documents for law firms and DIY franchisors in the U.S. With the overwhelming majority of FranchisePrep’s products sold through its website, the company’s online presence is a critical piece of its business. For this project, I designed, built, and deployed an attractive, effective, and SEO-savvy eCommerce website.

For this project, I needed to successfully introduce a product to market in a space traditionally serviced by franchise attorneys and consultants through the creation of a visually attractive and search engine optimized eCommerce website. I also had to set up a system to track website metrics, like cost of conversion, to the penny.
For seven years running, FranchisePrep’s product line has remained the #1 selling brand of DIY franchise documents and products. This success is due in large part to the website’s phenomenal organic rank for dozens of key words and phrases (franchise operations manual template, franchise disclosure document template, how to franchise your business, etc.) that FranchisePrep’s prospective clients use when looking for products or assistance in franchising their businesses. In addition, FranchisePrep’s AdWords campaign consistently increases traffic and sales for key terms, yielding the best conversions at the lowest possible price.
SacramentoBankruptcyLawyer.com—along with HughesFinancialLaw.com and AnthonyHughesBankruptcyAttorney.com—rounds out the trifecta of identities held by Hughes Financial Law. Serving to capture clients looking for bankruptcy-related services in the Sacramento, California area, this website ranks exceptionally well in Google and Bing organic search results for the firm’s most desired keywords and key phrases.

The most challenging aspect of this project had to do with what I wasn’t allowed to do. Because the site is leased from a third party, I wasn’t authorized to make changes to page layouts or on-page content. I did, however, need to significantly improve organic rank, give authorship attribution, and boost conversion rate.
Without altering page layouts, I added a new header, complete with a very compelling call to action; this immediately doubled conversion rate, evidence that the right kinds of small changes can have a huge impact on the bottom line. I also leveraged the Google+ profile of one of the firm’s attorneys to help distinguish it from competitors’ sites displayed in search results; SacramentoBankruptcyLawyer.com now ranks in the #1 position for first-page organic search results for the firm’s top two key phrases, “bankruptcy attorney sacramento” and “bankruptcy lawyer sacramento.” Since it costs between $40 and $50 per click to achieve that type of rank and exposure in paid search results, Hughes Financial Law is able to actually measure the ROI of my SEO campaign.
AnthonyHughesBankruptcyAttorney.com serves as a sister site to HughesFinancialLaw.com and provides a space to give Anthony an identity outside of the firm that he founded. The website provides general information and advice about bankruptcy while helping potential clients get to know Anthony on a bit more personal level. To help ensure the success of the new website, I planned and executed an aggressive SEO and SEM campaign to gain exceptional visibility for Anthony and to effectively establish him as “California’s Favorite Bankruptcy Attorney.”

Anthony Hughes hired me to build a site that would serve three primary purposes: (1) give him an identity apart from Hughes Financial Law, (2) optimize for keywords and key phrases used by potential customers from across the entire state of California, and (3) develop a 300+ location directory optimized to rank for “bankruptcy attorney” in all California cities with a population of more than 5,000.
After launching Anthony’s new website, online traffic to the site tripled almost overnight. The site ranks well organically in Google for many of the top keywords related to bankruptcy and authorship attribution makes it stand out even more in search results. Pages from the directory have started to rank well in Google and Bing for many of the 300 cities, allowing Anthony to truly cast a very wide net in his search for new business opportunities.
Hughes Financial Law specializes in bankruptcy and alternative debt solutions for its clients in eight locations throughout northern California. The leader in Nor-Cal bankruptcy filings, with 3,500 cases filed since 2007, Hughes Financial Law needed a web services firm that mirrored their own results-driven commitment to clients.

Looking for a way out of their relationship with FindLaw, Hughes Financial Law hired me to create a website that could serve as a directory for each of their eight brick-and-mortar locations. Other agenda items: Clean up and supercharge the existing Google AdWords campaign for each location, maximize ROI for each AdWords campaign, and restore the firm’s Google Maps listings—which had been removed under penalty for an inadvertent policy violation.
Almost immediately, the firm’s website traffic doubled. In a very short period of time, most location pages had first-page organic rank and many keywords for the firm’s ancillary services like “credit repair” and “foreclosure attorney” were ranking exceptionally well. Because I successfully expunged Google Maps’ penalty, each of the firm’s eight locations showed up on Google Maps. And, finally, I found the balance between cost and conversion by restructuring the firm’s AdWords campaign.
It’s an economic fact that bankruptcies increase when the economy suffers—and vice versa. With the economy improving in recent years, fewer people have been filing for bankruptcy; as a result, qualified bankruptcy attorneys must tailor their services appropriately and drop their prices. The attorneys at Bankruptcy500 used current technologies, economies of scale and refined business processes to offer first-rate bankruptcy services at a very competitive price.

To effectively market Bankruptcy500, I needed to design a website and an AdWords campaign that differentiated the firm from its competition. Low-price-point marketing among bankruptcy attorneys is common; what’s not common is for those attorneys to have websites that convey credibility, instill confidence in their services, clearly explain the value proposition, and result in the highest possible conversion rate. I needed to—through organic search engine placement and savvy AdWords marketing—get potential clients to find the Bankruptcy500 site and motivate them, once there, to call or fill out a questionnaire for an initial consultation.
The landing page for the Bankruptcy500 website is, hands down, the best landing page on the Internet for flat-fee bankruptcy firms. Through competitive research, I identified dozens of firms in many of the top cities around the country and I can say with confidence that the Bankruptcy500 site is heads and shoulders above the rest. And the AdWords campaign with integrated call tracking allows the firm to gauge—to the penny!—the the exact price cost of new client acquisition.
